SPECIES

by: Behzad Farahani

We, who consider ourselves the greatest development this galaxy has ever seen, are unfortunately accountable for the extinction of 150 to 200 species every single day on this precious planet.

Human progress should not come at the expense of other forms of life. While our achievements are impressive, true greatness lies in our ability to coexist with and protect the myriad species that share our planet. By reevaluating our choices and embracing stewardship, we can ensure that Earth remains a place of wonder and diversity for generations to come.

Throughout history, human activities have dramatically altered ecosystems. Deforestation, pollution, and urban sprawl have contributed to the

loss of habitats and the extinction of countless of habitats and the extinction of countless species. While these changes have often been justified in the name of progress, they come with profound consequences. Every species plays a unique role in maintaining the balance of our environment, and their loss can lead to unforeseen and often irreversible repercussions.

The path forward lies in reevaluating our actions and embracing our role as stewards of the planet. By doing so, we can achieve a legacy of progress that honors both humanity and the countless species with whom we share our home.

Yes, commercial whaling is happening in Japan, which resumed the practice in 2019 after withdrawing from the International Whaling Commission (IWC). Japan now hunts in its territorial waters, primarily for minke, Bryde's, and sei whales. The practice is driven by political factors, a desire to uphold whaling as a traditional culture, and ongoing local demand, despite significant international opposition and government subsidies.
